Elihu provides excellent reminders that God is greater than we can imagine (v 26): he never needs counsellors or teachers (v 23) and he is the supreme ruler over the natural world (vs 27-33). God is greater than our finite minds can comprehend. He – the only being like this in the universe – never needs any instruction from anyone. God’s wisdom is unfathomable.

General Know It All

When I was a kid, my mom was having one of those parties in our home where people see samples or catalogues of items and then place their orders. In one of the catalogues, I saw a t-shirt that reflected exactly what I believed about myself. On this t-shirt were the words “General Know It All.”
I wanted this shirt as a badge of honour to tell the world that whatever my opinion was, it was the right opinion and plan.

In this passage Paul finds it necessary to explain his behaviour to the Corinthians, and because they seem to have certain expectations of him he is explaining his “bragging rights.” He is determined to act in the way Jesus would have done.
Meekness is not weakness. Far from it. It is a deliberate determination not to act in an aggressive or sinful way.
