Planted in God’s Garden

Old Testament Reflection

I don’t know about you, but I love gardening. I enjoy all aspects of it, working the soil, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting. I especially enjoy seeing and tasting the fruit of my labour, whether it’s viewing a beautiful flowerbed, or tasting a fresh garden carrot.

Today I had a delicious and nutritious vegetable soup for lunch.

Everyone

Old Testament Reflection

God exists whether we believe it or not. He has something to say about us, whether we ask him or not.

Amos has set a stage. The Judge has entered. Court is in session. Amos reads out the charges against Israel’s enemies, their “countless crimes.” They have mercilessly plundered, killed and sold “my people” into slavery.

Life is fast paced, honesty is often blurred with half-truths in order to achieve desired results, and hard work is quickly abandoned in favour of easier routes that promise the same end goal. Here […]

Deserted And Desolate

The book starts with an outpouring of pain, first expressed through the narrator (vv 1–9b,10,11b,17) and then through Jerusalem personified as a woman, Daughter Zion (vv 9c,11c–16,18–22).

Jerusalem’s desolation is total. All her former glory is gone.

Light Transforms

What an incredible passage: light, sin, darkness, and honesty!  In John 8, Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery and everyone standing there that he is the light of the world. What does this mean? The religious people were trying to cover up and hide their sin, acting dishonestly.
