Judging Others
(Luke 6.37,38,41,42)
1Don't condemn others, and God won't condemn you. 2 God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them.
3You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye. 4How can you say, “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don't see the log in your own eye? 5You're nothing but show-offs! First, take the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.
6Don't give to dogs what belongs to God. They will only turn and attack you. Don't throw pearls down in front of pigs. They will trample all over them.

Reflections from a grandfather listening to the Sermon on the Mount
. . . It was hard to listen to this young Rabbi. He was challenging me in areas I did not want to be challenged.
I am always right. Or at least most of the time. I have experience. People want to know what I think. My opinions are strong. I am set in my ways. I don’t like to admit I might be wrong.
Who is this Jesus? Who can say I can’t judge someone else?
Who is this Jesus, who tells me I can’t stand up for what is right, or what I believe is right?
Who is this Jesus, who tells me to self-examine me first?
Who is this Jesus, who says I am a hypocrite?
Who is this Jesus?
Respond
Jesus – help me to listen, look at myself and then be encouraging, forgiving, understanding and humble. Help me Jesus – I’m such a hypocrite.
