Could it be that the themes of this prayer were the substance of what Daniel was praying about in chapter 6? If so, then he was doing far more than keeping his quiet time. Stimulated by God’s promises, he was interceding for God’s people. He knew that the only ground of his appeal was God’s mercy; but then that is the only basis on which any of us can appeal.

What happens when we pray? Does prayer make a difference? Here, almost uniquely, we are taken behind the scenes and see how Daniel’s prayer is shaping events. A vision comes in response to his praying and Gabriel comes to tell him that his prayer has been heard and an answer is on its way.

One of the characteristics of a Spirit filled congregation is joyful thanksgiving and praise. Sometimes one hears the idea expressed “I come to church to hear the message – the rest is just preliminary.” Yes, but Psalm 100 instructs us to prepare our hearts and minds by “entering his gates” and his courts with thanksgiving and praise.

Do you want to be considered a success? Deep down, I think every person does if they are honest with themselves. The problem is we know that in our culture success has become an idol. We talk about successful businessmen and successful careers in ways that make us envious and jealous.
