Wisdom from God’s Creation

Wisdom, or using knowledge to make good decisions, is a highly desirable trait. When God asked King Solomon what he wanted, Solomon chose wisdom. The book of Proverbs is linked to Solomon, and helps the reader to gain wisdom.

There are four animals within God’s creation that, though they seem small and insignificant, are full of wisdom.

The Dangers of Pride

Pride, or thinking well of yourself, is a temptation that occurs everywhere in our world. So prevalent is it that we even see examples of pride throughout God’s creation:

The lion, who is the king of all he surveys.

Blind Spots for Leaders

Just as we have a vision for our lives – all the places we will go and the things that we will do – so too will we have a vision for our children. When we become parents, some of our visions, as well as our wisdom, we will pass on to our children – to help their lives be even better than our own.

The Character of a Good Wife

We all want others to think well of us. As this famous passage in Proverbs points out, being a good wife is less about what a woman does and more about who a woman is. Yet, it’s easy to fall into a trap of believing that doing the right things will cause others to think well of us.

The Fruits of a Good Wife, Part 1

What makes a person – a woman, a man – good and noble is their character, not what they do or how they look or who they know. As Jesus noted, we must start with our hearts if we want to be good (Matt 23:25–26).

Proverbs 31 is a long list of examples of fruits that a good wife bears.

The Fruits of a Good Wife, Part 2

What makes a person – a woman, a man – good and noble as their character, not what they own or what college they went to or what their job title is. As the proverb says, from whatever is in your heart flows the spring of your life (Proverbs 4:23).

Proverbs 31 is a long list of examples of fruits of labour that a good wife bears.

The Fruits of a Good Wife, Part 3

What makes a person – a woman, a man – good and noble is their character, not what car they drive or how much fame they have or where they shop. Being a person of good character doesn’t start outside; it starts inside by having faith and having God work in our lives (Acts 11:24).

The Fruits of a Good Wife, Part 4

What makes a person – a woman, a man – good and noble is their character, not how much money they have in the bank or what designer clothes they wear or even what other people say about them. Let’s let God change the way we think – then we can please him (Romans 12:2).

Wisdom is Available to Everyone

We all want our lives to be better. A better life comes through making wise decisions. Wise decisions, though, don’t come naturally. They are hard work.

This is the goal of the book of Proverbs.

Following the Wrong Crowd

Do our parents really understand us? Is their advice at all useful?

Every young adult has wondered whether their parents really “get it.” When we are young, they make us obey rules, and when we become adults, their rules seem arbitrary and encumbering.
