Wisdom Makes Good Sense
1A woman's family
is held together
by her wisdom,
but it can be destroyed
by her foolishness.
2By living right, you show
that you respect the Lord;
by being deceitful, you show
that you despise him.
3Proud fools are punished
for their stupid talk,
but sensible talk
can save your life.
4Without the help of an ox
there can be no crop,
but with a strong ox
a big crop is possible.
5An honest witness
tells the truth;
a dishonest witness
tells nothing but lies.
6Make fun of wisdom,
and you will never find it.
But if you have understanding,
knowledge comes easily.
Reflect
When we enter a room we have the influence to create an atmosphere of pleasurable harmony or tension and strife. Our mindset has the power to determine whether we will live in a pit or a palace.
Palace living is not about wealth or prestige. Instead it is an attitude which establishes that whatever space we enter will be our place of abundance and grandeur. To achieve this, here are some guidelines:
- Choose to build one another up with love and kindness, instead of the foolishness of tearing one another down (v 1).
- The world hungers for integrity. By obeying and honoring God’s holiness, our lives will produce those places of goodness (vv 2, 3, 5).
- If you want a good income, make wise choices and work hard to obtain the right tools and acquire plans to produce an abundant harvest (v 4).
- Don’t be a mocker or lie. Be a faithful and trustworthy friend and people will be drawn to you like a magnet (vv 5-6).
Pits are places of discord and rivalry. No one wants to live there. When we walk upright with God and allow his love and wisdom to permeate our lives, our dwelling places will feel like palaces.
Whether we live in a shoe or a penthouse, each one of us has the power and ability to determine whether this will be our pit . . . or palace.

Dear Father God
Thank you God that you are trustworthy, kind and never give up on us. Help me to become that kind of person. Give me the wisdom to recognize that with your power in my life, I have the ability to turn my pits into palaces. Thank you. Amen.
