How’s Your Love Life? Psalms Reflection

Read

(A psalm by David when he was in the desert of Judah.)

God's Love Means More than Life

1 You are my God. I worship you.

In my heart, I long for you,

as I would long for a stream

in a scorching desert.

2I have seen your power

and your glory

in the place of worship.

3Your love means more

than life to me,

and I praise you.

4As long as I live,

I will pray to you.

5I will sing joyful praises

and be filled with excitement

like a guest at a banquet.

6I think about you, God,

before I go to sleep,

and my thoughts turn to you

during the night.

7You have helped me,

and I sing happy songs

in the shadow of your wings.

8I stay close to you,

and your powerful arm

supports me.

9All who want to kill me

will end up in the ground.

10Swords will run them through,

and wild dogs will eat them.

11Because of you, our God,

the king will celebrate

with your faithful followers,

but liars will be silent.

Reflect

Young love. I remember when I fell in love with the man who is now my life partner and lawfully wedded husband as if it was yesterday. I couldn’t wait to see him. My heart longed to love him. I spoke of him and sang his praises everywhere I went to whoever crossed my path. I loved spending time with him, often over a good meal. I would think of him before I went to sleep, and when I woke up I was thankful for a new day so I could spend more time with him. I especially loved when we walked hand-in-hand together. Then, I could show the world that he was all mine! Sound familiar? These sentiments come straight from the text of Psalm 63!

It is apparent that David had a beautiful and intimate relationship with the Lover of his soul. No love compared. Nothing in this world could satisfy like His Saviour. He shamelessly declared that His love was better than life! Can you say the same? If not, why not?

To this day, my husband and I go on regular dates. Inevitably, one of us will pose the question, “What rating would you give our relationship (1-10)? Then we share our rating and what it will take to bring it closer to a 10? It’s a genius way to keep our love fresh and exciting.

Perhaps these are questions we need to be asking where our relationship with the Lord is concerned. Or perhaps you don’t know what it is to have an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Maybe you have never committed your life to Him. Do you know that you will spend eternity with him?

How’s your love life? What will it take to bring it closer to a 10?

Respond

Jesus, Lover of my soul, I pray that my desire and love toward you will increase every hour. I pray that I will find all of my joy and satisfaction in you. I pray that you will be my all-in-all until you bring me home where I will enjoy you forever. Amen
