The Lord Works Wonders
1 God brought his people
out of Egypt, that land
with a strange language.
2He made Judah his holy place
and ruled over Israel.
3 When the sea looked at God,
it ran away,
and the Jordan River
flowed upstream.
4The mountains and the hills
skipped around like goats.
5Ask the sea why it ran away
or ask the Jordan
why it flowed upstream.

7Earth, you will tremble,
when the Lord God of Jacob
comes near,
8 because he turns solid rock
into flowing streams
and pools of water.
Reflect
“Where would we be now?” my husband asked.
I shook my head. We had just spoken to a group of people, giving our “testimony” about how we came to be believers in Christ. It’s a true story of his incredible grace and mercy, a testimony of miracles worked and lives changed.
“We’d probably be dead,” I responded. That’s no exaggeration. There were many times when we should have died, or been irreparably damaged. If God had not intervened in our lives, kept us safe even though we did not acknowledge him, our lives would have ended in disaster. Instead he turned us around and blessed us with over thirty years of marriage, three wonderful children and a ministry that has brought us joy and fulfillment. How good is our God!
In Psalm 114 David remembers and recounts the miracles of his God. He knows and proclaims that when the mighty hand of God acts even the inanimate earth obeys. Like his ancestors before him, David has set this up as a stone of remembrance, a declaration of the power of his God. We might well do the same.
What has God done in your life? Do you remember? Do you proclaim his power? All of us have a story to tell, a “testimony,” a story of God’s provision and his love for us. We have all been given much. We have all been well loved. We have all been forgiven.
Set up your stones of remembrance. And tell the world!

Father in heaven we bow before you in awe at your power, your grace and your mercy. May we also tremble at your presence. Help us to remember what you have done in our lives; help us to proclaim it as David did.
