89Our Lord, you are eternal!
Your word will last as long
as the heavens.
90You remain faithful
in every generation,
and the earth you created
will keep standing firm.
91All things are your servants,
and the laws you made
are still in effect today.
92If I had not found happiness
in obeying your Law,
I would have died in misery.
93I won't ever forget
your teachings,
because you give me new life
when I follow them.
94I belong to you,
and I have respected your laws,
so keep me safe.
95Brutal enemies are waiting
to ambush and destroy me,
but I obey your rules.
96Nothing is completely perfect,
except your teachings.
Reflect
What we allow to fill our view, influences our actions. If I stare at a wonderful piece of cheesecake, it will not be long before I am eating it. The Word of God and the truth we find in the Word of God are like that.
The psalmist reminds us of the sustaining power of God’s teaching. He thinks about it day and night. It is God’s word that sustains him through the storms he faces. The word of God is his steady diet.
He acknowledges God’s enduring faithfulness from generation to generation. The collective benefits of the working of God’s Spirit are made plain in these verses. We see the psalmist sustained in hard times. He is not given over to despair, but rather acknowledges the faithfulness of God. He sees that there are limits to what the world may perceive to be perfect, but God’s commands are all perfection.
Once again we are reminded of the enduring nature of the Word. God established the earth and it is still here. His word remains and all the truth that flows out of is the same generation after generation!
In a day, where so much is changing, and not all of it is good, it is a comfort to know that God does not change. His truth remains our strength and source of wisdom. The faithfulness of God is nothing like the promises of politicians! We can count on what our sovereign God says today and forever!
Respond
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for you do not change! Your truth and your promises endure from generation to generation. Thank you Father for your faithfulness. I put my trust in you today. Sustain me Father as I deal with whatever may come my way today. Amen.
